Kids Book Reviews
Wolves by Emily Gravett
A rabbit goes to the local library to read about wolves,
only to encounter one in real life and do some experiencial learning (complete
with the actualization of the predator-prey relationship, although another humorous
ending for people who find this frightening is provided too).
Spells by Emily Gravett
A frog looks through a spell book in hopes of becoming a
handsome prince.
I loved reading both of these books with Chobie. Chobie was
also very impressed, especially with the half-pages that make different spell
combinations in the book Spells. Both of these are unusually fun and creative
for kids books.
Some readers may have some of the same issues with Wolves
that people tend to have with Jon Klassen’s I Want my Hat Back. Gravett
includes an ending where *spoiler altert!* the wolf and the rabbit enjoy a
peanut butter and jelly sandwich together.
